When Norwegian mathematician Sophus Lie invented Lie groups in the 19th century, he couldn't have known, that modern day mathematicians would be scratching their heads and solving them two centuries later. But, a team of 19 mathematicians, have been mapping a 248-dimensional structure, called E8, and it has taken four years of work and, if written down, produced more data than the area of Manhattan.
